I guess that pasting a link to an Excel table is not possible, since you mention that you want to copy individual cells.
Are the data in Excel in a tabular format anyway? If so, doing a mail merge in Word with the Excel table as data source is probably easier than writing a macro.
Otherwise, you'll have to provide more information on how you determine where the cells should be copied in Word. Have you defined bookmarks for the target locations?
