    PowerPoint 2000 Initial Screen Layout

    <img src=/S/question.gif border=0 width=15 height=15>
    I've got a bunch of users asking 'is there any way to change the initial screen layout in PowerPoint 2000?' Some don't like the Notes window, some don't want the big slide sorter window on the left. Some want it just like the initial screen layout of PowerPoint 97.

    Any thoughts? We've done some searching, and while resizing the windows is trivial, you have to do it every time you start PowerPoint.

    This problem is really easy to correct. Simply load PowerPoint and then change your display to any configuration you like. You can even select a default design template if you like. Then, simply select the File > Save As command from the menu and chose Design Template as the Save As Type. Now here's the tricky part. Be SURE to name your file "Blank Presentation". The exact name is very important. Then, the next time that you load PowerPoint, whatever settings you set when you saved the "Blank Presentation" template, that will be the default for your PowerPoint Startup. And the good news is, that you can change the "Blank Presentation" template any time you want.

    Thanks for coming up with this tip!

    A couple of additional comments.
    1. If you delete the "Blank Presentation" you'll go back to PowerPoint's defaults.
    2. When making *any* template in PowerPoint, the user will start in the final view you saved in. So if you want to start in Slide Sorter view - switch to that view and save your template.
