    Marginsoutside printable area (2000)

I've had some documents from someone, with very narrow margins, and Word warns me that some of the margins are set outside the printable area. Sure enough, if I print, then some of the text is cut off. I wanted to set the margins to the minimum needed, so I set them all to zero, waited for the message that they were too small, and choose the 'fix' button to set them to the smallest OK margins. Still, on printing, Word says they are outside the printable area (though when printed no text was cut off). If Word has fixed the margins, why does it still give the warning?

Just as a test: Fix the margins, then save the document, then print.

Do you still get the fix warning?

    Hi Ian,

I've seen this behaviour in documents with multiple sections, where more than one section has margin problems. You may need to fix each section individually, or go into File|Page setup|Margins and make sure to apply the minimum required margins to the "Whole document" instead of to "This Section"

    Cheers

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> I confess I do this myself, use a maximum area of a word document to get in as much text as possible. When I print I ALWAYS get that screen saying "margins outside...ect", I just click YES and it always prints out just fine. I would test 1 page to see if it will print by selecting YES when that screen comes up, it saves paper <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> If you do have to alter the margins back, make sure you have your Rulers turned on, (VIEW>PRINT LAYOUT) so you only have to drag and release to resize.

Well, when I use the 'fix' option it is saying 'whole document'. The subsequent error message says the margins of section 1 are set outside the prinatable area (but in any case, there is only one section).
