Smooth scroll, Capslock, Word Reveal codes

Three things I miss from ancient (DOS) history. I used to have a smooth scrolling file viewer (smooth.com) and wish I could do similar now on text and also in Word, WP, net, etc. Next was called capslock.com and unlike current similar items all it did was automatically turn off the capslock if you typed any word like tHIS. My third yearning is for a cheap REVEAL CODES to use inside Word. I did find the $75.00 CrossEye from LEVITJAMES.COM and while it looks great, my money is very tight.

Well, in Word you can achieve this under your AutoCorrect Options - or were you thinking of ANY program running under Windows?

Please be aware that programming something like CrossEye must have been a large effort. In a WP document, the codes are actually sitting there in the file, among the text, but a Word document is a very different animal. A Word document consists (among other things) of more or less plain text, plus a lot of pointers into this text. It has been compared to a series of boxes within boxes within boxes within ...
So I don't think it is reasonable to expect a utility that emulates the WP view of things in Word to be free or extremely cheap. But you can always write your own utility, of course, and make it available as freeware. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Thanks. I even had it turned on and didn't know it. US version doesn't have all the options shown in the UK version but at least the one there is the one main one I wanted. I doubt the UK version would be transferable even if we knew which little file happened to do the function Would still be nice to have the same function all the time in email, WordPerfect, spreadsheets - my bad typing is in all ot them. I think the old one worked on everything and was in my autoexec.bat but that was awhile ago.

Yes I'm a bit cheap but unemployment tends to do that. I'm willing to pay at least some but the more dollars the more painful.
It is just that I get weird formatting errors out of the blue and have minimal idea what they are and where they came from. Most of my documents are very simple letters or often tables that get redited and reused many times with new names. Some of the weird wiggles I can even change but have no idea what to change them to so they match the rest of the world - I just want to delete whatever changed it. If you are curious I could send a typical problem file but it is not worth posting.

If you experience problems with the formatting of Word documents, you could post a question in the Word forum (with or without attachment). You'll find that lots of Loungers are willing to try and solve your problems for <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>. But if you don't think it's worth posting, that's up to you...

Re: Smooth scroll, Capslock, Word Reveal codes

Just a couple of unsolicited tips.
    1. Don't bother with reveal codes or similar. As Hans pointed out, they work very different in Word.
    2. You can see most formatting by pressing Shift+F1 & then clicking on a character.
    3. Learn to use styles & not direct formatting. Select your paragraphs & press Ctrl+Q & Ctrl+Spacebar to remove direct paragraph & character formatting.
    4. Go to Tools/AutoCorrect/Autoformat as you type & uncheck almost everything. You can test them one at a time to see if you want to keep anything, such as smart quotes. You might want symbols, fractions, & ordinals checked. Internet paths, if checked, will be blue & "live".
    5. Go to Tools/Templates & add-ins & uncheck "Automatically update document styles".
    6. Go into normal & any other template that you use often & apply & then delete every single style under Format/Styles/All styles box. There's a macro to do this somewhere in the Lounge & I'll post it if I can find it.

By the way, I have all the options listed in my US version of Word 2000.
    Cheers,
