Stalls (Windows XP Home IE 6 )

When I go to an internet site and click down on that site to a page my computer grinds and grinds while it loads. Eventually I get a blank screen, the grinding continues, but the internet icon down in the lower right hand corner of the screen is no longer lighting up. If I click on the stop button the page I'm looking for almost always pops right up.
What's going on. How do I fix it?

Any particular web site, or all of them?
I'd start off by clearing ALL of your temporary internet files. Run a search in this forum for index.dat - that should lead to some instructions for having a good spring clean.

Thanks for the advice. The temporary internet files was clean except for index.dat. No particular website. It's happened on several different websites where I have to go to a main page and then click down to the information I want to get at.
