Backing up Address Book (WXP)

Is there any recommended way to backup the OE Address Book to, say, a floppy disk?

    Hi, Chuck ~

Here is a simple way:<UL><LI>Open OE > 'Tools' > 'Address Book...'<LI>Then from the Address book menu > 'File' > 'Export' > 'Address Book (WAB)...'
While you are doing that, I would also do this:<UL><LI>'File' > 'Export' > 'Other Address Book...'<LI>Select 'Text File (Comma Separated Values)' > 'Export' button<LI>'Browse' button > Enter name and location to which you wish to save > 'Save' button > 'Next' button > Select fields you want > 'Finish' button
This way you have a version you can import into another client or application were the need to arise.

    Hi Bruce,

I find it works, but somewhat differently than you describe. If I go to Tools ! Address Book and then File the drop down menu has the Export and Import options greyed out. However, if I click on File at the main OE menu and then select Export it pops up with an option to export the Address book. The next dialog box is where you select the export format, and on my machine the only option there is the comma delimited version. This seems to do the job OK.

    Thanks,

    Hi, Chuck ~

Your 'Export' and 'Import' options should not be greyed out. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> I don't know why they would be and could not locate a fix.

You may navigate to 'Cocuments and Settings<your account>Application DataMicrosoftAddress Book<your account>.wab' and copy the address book there to save a copy in the '.wab' format.

    Hi again,

I don't know why they are greyed out either unless, as I stated before, it's because I actually use Oulook, not OE, and that somehow prohibits exporting/importing the Address book out of OE.

However, directly saving the .wab file is certainly another simple way.

If the Address book is empty you can NOT export it. If you are using Outlook, then you may have "Contacts" which is part of your PST file and you will need to export it from Outlook, not Outlook Express.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Thanks Dave,

I am, in fact, using Outlook and I backup my PST file. However, my question was in behalf of a friend who uses Outlook Express, and I didn't know how to back that one up.
