    defragmenter

The maintainance wizard stopped working. In particular the disk defragmenter. What should I do to get the disk defragmenter to work again. Thanks

Run Scandisk 1st and see if that helps. One thing you could do is download a free trial version of Diskeeper
99% of the people on this forum will tell you Diskeeper is 10 times better then Win Defrag System. Try it and you will see.

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> My 98SE machine takes forever to defrag, I now have Norton System Works loaded and it only takes 7 minutes manually. If you don't have an alternative to the Windows defrag, follow Cowboy's suggestion and download the Lite version of Diskeeper, it is free. http://www.execsoft.co.uk/html/downloads/d...per/dk_lite.htm <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Re: defragmenter

The defrag ran much faster after I removed the option to make programs start faster, and I never noticed any difference to load times. In fact the systems became a little more stable.

However, I agree that third party defrags were miles, or kilometers, ahead of the Win98 option.
