Want everything back to default (MS Outlook 2000 9.0..2711)

Maybe this has been covered before but my search didn't turn up what I was hoping for.

Woody had a tip (open the Run command and type "Outlook /CleanViews" without quotes - which came from the Office 97 Que book) that I used and that restored a lot of my problem but I am still having trouble with the font style of the incoming messages. I want them to arrive as the sender intended with no interference from my application!

I have attempted to change the message format box as follows: to plain text; font 11pt - Ariel - black. Use my font when replying or forwarding messages. No stationary picked. I don't use Word as my email editor.

I guess what has happened is that I have made so many changes, I would just like to have everything back to the way it was originally. ( So I can probably mess it all over again ) Is there a way to accomplish this deed

And I hope all your days are fun ones!

Well... what kind of messages are you concerned about?

Plain Text Format - Sender has no control; your Outlook settings control the font
Rich Text Format - Sender has control; I don't know of an override option
HTML Format - Sender has control; possible to override with IE Accessibility settings?

Re: Want everything back to default (MS Outlook 2000 9.0..2711)

Hi! Well, the email messages that I was receiving were all showing up with the "comic sans ms" font. That was the choice I had made to send my messages in, not to receive them in.

Then I decided to switch everything that I could to Arial pt 11 black and now that is the way all my messages are showing up and that is also the way anything I write new or reply to, will be.

So I just wanted a way to take it back to whatever it was suppose to be originally. The tip I used from Woody's book (which was actually for Outlook 97) did remove all the formatting of the inbox message headers, added the preview pane (which I promptly changed) and so forth but it didn't seem to tackle any of the font issues.

I hope this explains my problem that I would like to correct, just a bit better.
Thank you and

I'm going to assume that these messages are in Plain Text format. The format is listed in (parentheses) in the window title bar when you have the message open. If you are having trouble with other message formats, post and tell us the details.

As far as I know, the only way to set the font for incoming messages in Plain Text format, whether it is set to the "out of the box font" (which I don't remember) or your preferred font, is the third option in the Tools>Options>Mail Format>Fonts dialog:

Personally, I am a big fan of Courier for e-mail, maybe because my first e-mail client was ccMail. But whatever you like, I'm fairly certain that's how you go about changing it.

Whew! Yes, that is the setting I was looking for. I had played around with this dialog box but hadn't gotten the right fonts chosen. I will use your suggestion of Courier New for a bit and see if that gives my plain text messages the right "feel". It looks pretty close to what I was used to seeing before I messed everything up!

for your help!
