'Navcancel' - IE6 - AOL 8
Not sure whether this comes under Win98SE or IE6 so I will start here.
I did a clean install of Win98SE on a Dell XPS-R450 desktop several months ago, did windows and officeupdates (O2K), installed AOL 8.0 as it's one of the ISP's I use.
Now every time I attempt to use the AOL browser the following error pops up as preface to the web address entered. But when I switch to IE I can access the internet just fine. Is this some Microsoft sabotage or what? Any workarounds? Short of reinstalling IE, AOL tech support had nothing to suggest.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Apparently this is a coding error in the shdoclc.dll file that has been around for a while. The error causes a "patch overrun vulnerability". You can read about it at http://members.aol.com/ojatex/showdoc.htm and there is a link to a fix for it at the bottom of the page. It all boiled down to a letter x being used instead of an a, in the depths of the code. <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>
Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
Today it is called golf!
