    No spell checker (Office 97)

Our school installed an XP lab with Office 97 installed on each machine. When using Word, only people with administrator rights can use spell check. I've changed the access rights to the folders for Office and the spell checker files, but it still won't let students access the checker. What step am I missing?

You can't run macros either, can you?

The problem is Office 97. You need to "open" several registry keys to make
the spell check engine work for User level permissions. Same goes for the
    VBA macro engine.

See <post#=187318>post 187318</post#> for discussion and solutions.

BTW, if you've got an ADS network (Windows 2000 Server, etc), MS has a Global Policy named Compatws.inf
that will fix these Office 97 problems on ALL your Win2k and XP desktops.

    See your network adminstrator.
