Can a template cell read another cell? (Word 2000)

Can MS Word 2000 do this?

I am developing a template for the Engineering Dept. that is at least several sheets. At a given cell, I enter a part number. The way the template is set up, successive sheets require the same part number in the body of the document, (this is not a header/footer).

Can the subsequent part number cells, read the entry from the initial part number cell?

Are you using Word for this document, or Excel?

    Hi John:
You can bookmark the initial cell & it will show up in a REF field placed later on. The trouble is that if you bookmark the entire cell, the REF field will show not only the part #, but also the cell (nested if you have the REF field in another cell). If you bookmark just the part # in the cell, you won't have that problem.

However, you may have another problem. If you change the part number by tabbing into the cell, typing will delete the bookmark.

Another solution might be to enter text formfields where you want the part number. Then you can place REF fields in other places in the document, & then protect the document for forms.
    Hope this helps.

Give the cell content a specific style - (One that is not used elsewhere) and then use a StyleRef field wherever you want the contents to show. This avoids the bookmark disappearing act.

If you do use that style elsewhere then the subsequent styleref fields show a different content from that point onwards.
