XP Pro Firewall? (Should I Disable?)

Have read various thoughts on the topic of the inbuilt firewall that comes with XP Pro, should I disable (or not activate it) and load an outside firewall. I recall hearing the inbuilt firewall is not very good, is this true?

The XP firewall is not considered to be very good at all. You can get the download of ZoneAlarm. You will need to disable the ICF by doing this:

'Start' > 'Control Panel' > 'Performance and Maintenance' > 'Administrative Tools'
Double-click 'Services' > scroll down to and double-click 'Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) / Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)'
Under the 'Service status:', click the 'Stop' button if the service is started
Above that next to 'Startup type:', select 'Disabled' > 'Apply' > 'OK'
Then install and configure ZoneAlarm[/list]

Ouch, why does that sound so scary? I am very cautious because it is a new machine and not mine, I recall when setting it up yesterday there was a prompt asking if I wanted to activate the "firewall", I hit "No" and continued, thinking I would place this post first. Bruce thank you for the step by step instructions, I have printed them out and will follow them exactly. I know this is beyond dumb, but what is the ICF, I will be disabling?
When I have disabled the ICF, I will download and install Zone Alarm on that machine tomorrow. Once again many thanks for the terrific help.
