The free space was being reported incorrectly

    From Scandisk.log
The PC has two drives; C (used space 1.45 GB - free space 552 MB) contains the boot files, etc and the D drive contains some program files and Office 2000
On checking the D drive (used space 1.31 GB, free space 708MB) I get the following error
    "File system

The free space was being reported incorrectly.
ScanDisk successfully fixed the free space count"

I believe that should be plenty of space for virtual memory to allow programs to run ok! However the systam crashes and I'm trying really hard to study for my W2k Server exam at the moment so I can get a better paid job and buy a decent PC with an OS that is reliable. I'm ready to trash the machine at the moment.

I believe that this is a possible bug in FAT32, and it's only the D drive that is formatted with FAT32, the C is FAT. Apparently running scandisk will temporarily resolve the issue - but the burning question is, is there a permanent fix before I update my PC ? Please help !!!

Are you running ScanDisk from DOS or from within Windows?

DOS - though I've run it in Windows too.
