Mozilla versus the old Netscape (Mozilla)

I've just downloaded & started trying Mozilla (your influence, BigAl) . Up until now, I've been using Netscape 4.75 for mail. I see the following items that I can't seem to change & wonder if I'm overlooking something.

1. There used to be a column that said "New" for the first time you downloaded new messages. I can't find that anymore. Does it exist?

2. I used to be able to press Ctrl+] or[ to make text larger or smaller. Is there a new shortcut key for this?

3. I could set Netscape to download messages automatically upon starting Messenger

I don't remember, Phil, as I have always displayed only the TOTAL column. As far as I know, Moz only has two - TOTAL and UNREAD. I rely on total, 'cause the messages are bold when they first arrive, until read.

I don't know the answer. Lemme go looking.

Phil, on that larger/smaller text question, are you talking about while in message composition? If so, that keyboard shortcut is either of Ctrl - (hyphen) or Ctrl = (equals). (On highlighted text, of course)

Hi Al:
Thanks for the responses. I've been swamped this week & haven't had a chance to check things out yet. I'll take a look for the mail server as I hadn't noticed it before.

No. When you're reading a message or browsing a web page, Netscape 4x let you press the shortcut keys to increase or decrease the font. Some people use smaller text when they compose, so it's easier on my eyes and very handy. Similar to changing the text size with a menu option in IE (largest, larger, etc. under View options).

OK, I checked it out and those hot keys work when reading a message or looking at a web page. Have fun.

Edited to add: I should have said that the font changes are sticky from one page to another, but NOT when you re-start the Mozilla program. Not bad and I'm glad you caused me to check this out. Thanks, Phil!

Re: Mozilla versus the old Netscape (Mozilla)

Hi Big Al:
Thanks for all the information. I didn't think to open Mail & Newsgroups & then look for Account Settings. In Netscape 4x, it was just another tab under Edit/Preferences. And once you said there were hotkeys for text size, I went to the view menu & saw that the hotkey was now Ctrl++ & Ctrl+-, rather than ] & [.

The only thing that I don't have is a green icon on the toolbar that brought up Messenger (i.e. Mail & Newsgrops). Also, the offline button & icons for switching between Mail, Navigator, Composer, etc. are switched.

Nevertheless, I'm happy enough to give this a try, especially since I can still keep my messages on the server. Thanks again.
