Automatic CD Content GUI

I'm looking for a program that will autorun much like a software setup disk.

I guess what I'd like it to do is:

After CD is inserted, a GUI menu will appear automatically and display a menu of the contents of the disk (preferably just ones I choose). A click of the icon representing the file (or program) will launch respective application.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Have you checked any of the software setup programs like Installshield or Wise. Installshield & Wise are kind of pricy for what you want. Installshield used to have an Installshield Express version but I don't know if that is still around. You could probably find an open source free one at sourceforge.net. I'm pretty sure that the Nullsoft installer there would do what you want.

... or consider getting a Mac? When you insert a CD it automatically 'mounts' onto the desktop and, if the right options were selected when it was burned, a window opens showing the contents of the CD. Otherwise double clicking on the CD icon opens the window showing the contents in list or icon view. The Mac does Office as well.

Just to clarify...

I want to be able add this "feature" to disks I burn.

For example, if there is a Powerpoint, a photoalbum, and a video I have burned onto a disk, I'd like to have the contents appear in some sort of splash screen when the disk is inserted, no matter what computer it is used on.

In bowls they would call that a bias. Actually I have very fond memories of Apples/Macs from my earlier years, if I can ever justify a new PC ta Macs going to be top of my list!

Re: Automatic CD Content GUI

Mac users can mount CDs burned in both Mac and PC formats. (the reverse is not true). CDs formatted for either the Mac or the PC will react as I indicated. Most Office PC applications have an equivalent Mac version (Access being the major exception) and many Apple only applications can open Office files (Appleworks can open .doc/.xls, Keynote can open .pps, etc.) The actual application that is used will be the one set in the User's preferences.

So - If you burn your CD's in PC format - it will open a window on the Mac when it is mounted. The ability to use the data files may be dependant on which applications the user has, and has selected to be used with that type of file.

Cardfan--

Please tell me the difference between what you are after and putting in the CD you have burned and then two clicks to open up the contents of your CD in Explorer--and then another click of the icon will launch the respective app. Isobuster seems to do exactly what you want and is
part free/part shareware here and explained/downloaded here also. Babex's
Folder Box 1.10 (scroll down to 5th download) which will display five folders free and ten with the paid version may also help.
