    deleting unwanted views (2000)

I've created a couple of custom Views in Outlook, named them as I want, and only use them.
However, the default views remain, and I'm faced with a large number of views in the drop-down Views box. Is it possible to delete them?
I notice that if I try, the 'delete view' buttons is greyed out. It would be nice to only have the couple of views I need, as it would make switching between them much easier.

Well, you can't edit a built-in drop-down list control, but you can hide it and show your own instead.

Toolbar (CommandBar) programming is complicated and subject to error even under the best of conditions, and here, where the views can change from folder to folder, it is downright hazardous. I crashed Outlook several times testing the attached code. The SetupViewListOptions options adds a "Show My Views" button next to the Current View drop-down control on the Advanced toolbar. It also adds a hidden drop-down that will be populated when you click that button. (The button caption then changes to Show All Views.)

I wish it could say that it's reliable and stable... but it is not yet so. Still, you might find it to be useful, and I offer it in that spirit.

Many thanks for your contribution. Efforts much appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't think I'm capable of knowing how to install, let alone use, the code.
I guess the effective answer to my question is 'no, there's no way you can reduce the size of the drop-down list'!

Yes, and I had to redefine my views this morning when all my fonts turned into 8pt Tahoma... If I were using Outlook 2002, I could chalk it up to "XPerience." <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>
