    Specifying exactly what you want would be helpful. What do you mean by "...based on a date field that will show me everything 1 year prior to the date in the field"? How can something in the date field be 1 year prior to the date in that same field?

    To display all records with a date in the current year, add a column Year([DateField]) to the query grid. In the criteria row below this, enter Year(Date())

    Note that anything in the current year is considerably different from anything that occured in the last year (last 12 months). If you want to see things that occurred in the prior year (i.e 2002 when the current year is 2002, then you can modify Hans' response to say
    Year(myDate)
    and set the criteria to be
    Year(Date())-1
