    Insert character into a cell (Excel 2000 SP2)

    I have a column with data in x amount of cells, how can I insert a % at the start of each cell e.g.Cell A1 has data bill cell A2 fred I want to insert %bill , %fred and so on?

    If column B is not empty, insert a new column first.
    In cell B1, enter the formula ="%"&A1
    Fill down as far as necessary (double clicking the fill grip in the lower right corner will probably do that)
    If you want to replace the values in column A, select the cells with the formulas in column B, cut to the clipboard, then in column A select Edit/Paste Special..., Values. (or drag to column A with right mouse button)
