auto internet connect (Outlook 2000 )

When I look at email that has internet links that require a connection to see the email, outlook automatically loads IE and tries to connect to the internet. Most of this mail is junk so I don't want to waste the time connecting.

Is there a way to configure outlook to not access the internet in these cases, unless I specifically command it?

I think this setting is actually in IE. If you set "Never dial a connection" on the Connection tab under Tools > Internet Options... then you should solve the Outlook problem. But when you fire up IE, it won't automatically dial for you.

To fix the dial up do as "jscher2000 " has stated.

What is happening, is there are images or other objects in the email which are links, and your system needs to connect to the servers for them to be displayed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
