    Is this a recommendation for purchase, or are you just plugging the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> chapter? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Both I guess! There are so many XP enthusiasts on the lounge and numbers-wise it gets the most traffic--and there are three recent MS Press books that seem to be right in the strike zone for some of the xp threads--the other two are Win XP Power Toolkit and I like this one's layout the best of the three XP Registry books you often see in stores Microsoft Windows XP Registry Guide because Jerry Honeycutt is thorough and he made a real effort to demistify the registry and arm you with information to keep you out of trouble without oversimplifying its power. The appendices really help: Peruser Settings; Per Computer Settings; Group Policies. All of the MS Press books have free chapters on line, and this is an Alphabetical List of MS Press books. Of course, sites like Amazon, and Readme.doc will often have the best deals and there are a ton of those--often 40% off of what the walk-in stores sell retail. I find that Microcenter is the cheapest bricks and mortar store in my city--$8-12 off retail.
