Confirm Open After Download Checkbox doesn't work

Has anyone had this problem and resolved it? Specifically my problem deals with PDF's and Acrobat Reader 5.0 & 5.1. In the File types, PDF is set up to be opened by Reader and is marked to 'Confirm Open after Download'. But when I click on a webpage PDF link, I'm not prompted at all. Is there some registry setting that's messed up? Can someone point me to a possible solution?

Is Acrobat Reader opening in a web pane or as a seperate Reader window?

I've tried both ways. I don't get prompted either way.

When I check the "Display PDF in Browser", the PDF opens fine, but I don't get a prompt to either open or save it.

When I uncheck the "Display PDF in Browser", the PDF doesn't open and a small square icon appears in the upper left corner of the screen, I still don't get prompted to open or save.

When the file is opening in a web pane then you will NOT be asked. You will only be asked if you can down load and save the file to your hard drive. Some web masters have defined their web page to open the file in the web page and NOT be down loaded as a file. Once the file is open in the eweb page you may be able to "save as" to your hard drive. If the web master has defined it to be opened in a web pane then you will NOT be asked to open or save.

The attached picture is what I want to receive when I click on a PDF. I received this box viewing this same website on a different machine with Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (the full version) on it.

Open Explorer (My Computer), go to the menu, Tools, folder options, and then the Files Type tab. Select the file type and the select the edit button. Then add a check mark to the "Confirm open after downloading".

Sorry. As I stated in my opening post, this is already done. I've tried unchecking, rebooting, rechecking it, rebooting, and checked to see if that worked and it didn't.

Anybody else have ideas?

There is a complex interplay of different things: one is the Browse in same window setting that determines whether IE will display in the browser or call an external program, another (when viewing in the browser) is your security setting for ActiveX controls. If you don't allow ActiveX controls to run (this is a separate setting from downloading trusted or untrusted, or scripting them), then you might get that little box rather than the actual document. But actually I think you should get an error message, so there's probably something else going on, too.

Anyway, in Windows Explorer's Tools>Folder Options...>File types tab for PDF files, turn off Browse in same window.

Last ditch workaround: right-click those links and Save Target As...

Our ActiveX control setting: If the ActiveX control is digitally signed, we allow it to run. If it isn't, we don't.

Also the 'Browse in same window' is already off and actually disabled as in the picture below.
