    Obtaining Column Information (A97)

Hi, I'm more used to DB2 or SQL Server , and was wondering if Access had any system tables/objects available which would let
you query the tables structures defined.
I've found the MSSysObjects table but all it contains are the names of the available tables ,
are there others available detailing the columns within the tables and there types,
I don't want to make modifications, but would like to export some "schema" definitions etc...

    thanks.

    Welcome to the Access forum.
You can't really do what you are talking about with SQL statements, but those properties are all available through the VBA interface. You would need to develop some familiarity with the Access Object Model and the various collections. There are several books that go into those issues in some detail. There is also a facility available in current versions of Visio that will let you create schema documentation from an Access database, though I don't know if it will work with Access97 format databases. It does work with Access 2000 and 2002 databases.

Visio will happily reverse engineer Access 97 databases, Wendell. I've done this on a number of them using Visio 2002.
