    IE 5.01 SP2

I was wondering if anybody has upgraded from IE 5.01 SP1 to the IE5.01 SP2 that's now available? I can't find what the upgrades are between them other than the SP2 is supposed to have all the patches and security upgrades installed. There are two possible downloads. The first one is the complete version with Outlook Express and Windows Media Player the thing is HUGE at 17 megs!! The second is a minimal selective download that is still 7 megs in size. I have all the patches and security downloads installed on my 5.01SP1 and it works perfectly fine. I was just wondering if any of you have downloaded the SP2 version and/or what they changed in the program.

Thanks for any input that anyone can give me on this.....

    Regards,
    Jeff

    Re: IE 5.01 SP2

Well, I downloaded and installed it yesterday, and apart from updating the icons rather more slowly on my ancient 133 MHz machine, I haven't found it any different from IE 5.01 SP1.

What I would like is a source for the full adminstrative download, to apply to all our workstations from a networked drive, not the 500 KB IE5SETUP.EXE which pulls down the 17 MB of which you speak for one machine only...

    John,

The files for Internet Explorer update are saved in the Windows Update Directory. I think it's on C:windows...

You can copy the contents of this directory to your network drive, or CD, and run it from there to install.

    Hope that helps!

    Drk.

The mini-installer lets you download the whole enchilada:

    Re: IE 5.01 SP2

Thanks to both of you! I didn't get the file via Windows Update (at least, I don't THINK I did!), but nonetheless I will save the information for future use - I'd never clicked on the Advanced button before. The Windows Update Setup Files directory seems to contain all the files you'd expect from the directory name, including the IE5SETUP.EXE file I referred to. Presumably it has some way of checking whether or not it has to download all the files from the internet, or just use the ones in the current directory - is it perhaps the presence or absence of the zero-byte file IE5SETUP.DIR? I'm a bit puzzled why the "Install later" option needs 2.6 MB less of a download than the "Install now" option - can anyone explain this?

Jeff - sorry for highjacking your original thread!

I think that smaller number is for "minimal"; I ended up downloading about 24 MB. I love the T1.

Yes, yes.. the T1 is wonderful, isn't it?

The best way to handle internet explorer installations, (in my experience,) is to create a CD from the FULL install of the version. You will still have the option of installing a minimal or custom installation for your users, who may have differring internet needs, ranging from all out flash compatible, multimedia, monster-truck browser, to skimpy Look at me! i'm Internet Explorer!!volkswagen browser... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
