Text marked with 'Do not check spelling or grammar (Word XP)

    Hello,

I am trying to work out how the spell checking works in Word. For example, when you spell check a document - and tell Word to ignore a rule.

After running some of my macros, the ignored rules seem to disappear, and you have to tell it all over again to ignore that rule. I am not sure what is causing this. Is there a way to access the ignored rules?

Also, sometimes I get a message box that pops up after running the spellcheck that says "Text marked with 'Do not check spelling or grammar' was skipped". Is it possible to see this text?

    Thanks

I don't know the answer to your firsyt question ("ignore" being ignored).

To find text that is marked with "Do not check spelling or grammar":

Go to the start of the document (press Ctrl+Home).

Select Edit/Find... (or press Ctrl+F).

Click More to expand the dialog.

Click on Format, and select Language...

Make sure that the box Do not check spelling or grammar is ticked and not gray.

Click OK.

Click Find Next.

Repeat if necessary.[/list]

    Hans,

Thanks for that. I ran this find on my document and it came up with the table of contents, headers and footers. Do you know what marks text with "Do not check spelling or grammar"? Is it because these are fields?

Yes, many fields are automatically set to "Do not check spelling or grammar", because the contents are not typed by you directly, but depend on something else, so it makes no sense to check them.
