    Remove Passwords (97 - 2002)

I have a database - created in Access 97. The person that created it is no longer around. I now have Access 2002 and when I try to open it I don't have permission. I've tried joining the workgroup - but then I don't know the user ID or Password - I've tried Admin with no password. I have the .mdw file and can open it. Hopefully someone can help as I need to get this database up and running.
    Thank you in advance.

Is there anyone around who has used the database recently and can remember a userid and password? If not, you may well be out of luck. There are supposedly tools available that will crack passwords for Access databases, but I don't have any personal knowledge or experience with them. If the database wasn't entirely secured you may be able to import objects out of it into a new 2002 database, but if it was properly secured, converting it will be a major challenge.

    Re: Remove Passwords (97 - 2002)

Thanks for your help Pat but it must be something between Access 97 and Access 2002 as the file I downloaded to crack the password, from the post you gave me, showed that there wasn't any passwords set. I can open the .mdw file and see all the users but when I try to open the database it won't open, saying I don't have permission etc. Any other suggestions.
    Thanks

Did you join the workgroup file before you tried to open the database?

A database password is not the same as a login and password using Access security. The cracker you got is for database passwords, which weren't availabe in A97 anyhow. If you don't have a user login and password that is valid and recognized by the workgroup file, then a cracker for database passwords won't help anyhow.

The admin user with no password is the same as opening the database from an unsecured workgroup. In other words, it won't work or you would have absolutely no security on the database.
