    Access Closing (Access 2000)

Help! When I try to open my databases they open and then close with an error message that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program". Does anyone know what the problem could be. I don't want to reinstall access because I am running office XP for all application except Access and I was told that I would have to uninstall XP, reinstall access 2000 and then reinstall office XP. I will do this if I have to, but I was hoping someone would have an easier solution.

    Re: Access Closing (Access 2000)

I'm afraid I'm going to counter with a lot of questions.

Does this happen with *all* databases or are there exceptions?
Does this happen when you open a database from Windows Explorer, or from within Access (File/Open...), or both?
What happens if you open a database from within Access and hold the Shift key down while it is being opened?
Can you create a blank new database?
If you can open Tools/Options... (you need to have a database open to do that, which may be a blank new one), activate the Advanced tab. If "Ignore DDE Commands" is checked, uncheck it and click OK.

Even if none of this helps, posting the answers may help in nailing down your problem.

    Re: Access Closing (Access 2000)

Here are the answers to your questions.
This happens to all databases from simple to shared secured.
When I open a database from a shortcut or explorer it displays the switchboard and then Access closes. If I open it from Access the same thing happens. When I tried to open the secured shared data base from the run under start with out the password It will ask me for the password, open and I can get to the tables and look at them, and then it closes.

Nothing is any different if you open the database from within Access and hold the Shift key down while it is being opened.
I can create a blank new database but if I try to do anything with it Access closes.
    "Ignore DDE Commands" was unchecked.
    Thanks for your help,

Thank you for your answers. Perhaps somebody else has a bright idea, but it seems to me that your Access 2000 installation is damaged, so uninstalling everything, then reinstalling (Access 2000 first, install XP in a different folder) is probably the way to go <img src=/S/sorry.gif border=0 alt=sorry width=15 height=15>
