Change printer trays in protected doc (WordXP)

Is there a way to change printer tray settings in a protected document? I have a situation where a protected document has been e-mailed to me and is printing out on Continuation paper (Tray 1) not Draft paper (Tray 3).

The printer is an HP 4200. The top tray (Tray 1) is a small fold-down tray that holds only 50 sheets of paper. Tray 3 holds 500 sheets of draft paper. The printer has been installed with Tray 3 set as the Default Tray, but this seems to be over-ridden by the inaccessible settings within Page Setup. Even using File | Print | Properties and selecting Tray 3 as the paper source is having no effect.

    Help, Please!

How rude! Many people put expensive special papers in that tray. Maybe if you send a bill for wasted forms they will get the idea and fix the document. (I am assuming you don't have the password.)

I've given up on a software solution (short of cracking the password) and was hoping for a printer-related solution of some sort. This is a common problem - any sort of glitch like protected document, wrong paper size (eg. Letter instead of A4) causes printing to ignore the Default Tray setting and revert to printing from Tray 1 - ie. Continuation, bond, or whatever manual feed paper is being used.

I think it would be awfully tricky to try to change the tray selection codes inside the inscrutable data stream Word is sending to your printer...Would you consider printing to PDF and then printing the PDF to the correct tray to be a tolerable workaround? <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

I just love that lateral thinking!
