    Win 2K won't shutdown

After installing win2k everything works fine. Then I installed the drivers for the hp 722C printer from the win 2k driver base. I didn't check to see if it would shut down windows at that time. I installed office 2000. I shut down to reboot the computer. It closed windows and went to a blue screen. The computer remained on and didn't shut off automatically. In addition to this the fade in and fade out feature of win 2k was lost also.

The fading menu thing sounds like a problem with the video adapter. You can check to see if the properties were changed in Display properties.

Can you boot into VGA mode successfully after pressing F8 at startup? Try that and see if it works.

10 to 1 Office hosed your system. If you have pcAnywhere, this could also affect the system's response. Is there any other software installed that was recent and may be conflicting?

Mark, The problem turned out to be in the color settings in the display properties> settings tab. I went to 256 color and this is what did in my fade options. As soon as I went back to the 32 bit color it came back. Thanks for the tip.

thanks for posting the solution. i knew very little of the cool effects work in 256k but never considered it. [mental note - remember this <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>]

Thanks for the reply Mary. I also discovered the reason Win 2K wouldn't shut down. I loaded in drivers for my HP CD burner model 8200i. These drivers are not compatable with Win 2K. The updated drivers (at a cost) solved this problem.
