    Laptop Security (Win XP)

Just bought a new laptop and want to secure it so that if anyone accesses it, they can't open any data.

Is there anything in Win XP that I can use or does anyone know of a 3rd party app?

Windows XP has the EFS (Encrypting File System) but this is available with XP Pro only.

My personal preference is PGP Disk, this allows you to create an encrypted Virtual Disk. I use a commercial version, but you can still get a free download (I suspect that the free version may not work with XP though).

It's also worth spending 5 minutes to read <A target="_blank" HREF="http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/columns/security/5min/5min-205.asp">5-Minute Security Advisor - The Road Warrior

    Stuart,
I just checked PGP Disk and they do offer a freeware version of a Win XP version for non-commercial use. Thank you for pointing me there. I'm going to use MicroSoft's and PGP's encoding/locing programs.
