What is this program?

Has anyone heard of:
supportsoft web controls?

I was going down my list of programs, and don't recognize this one.

Thanks for any help/advice!

Michael

Perhaps SupportSoft, Inc? http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/smbiz...upportsoft.html There's also a link to their homepage.

Re: What is this program?

Yes the company is called SupportSoft.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this application "comes with" Win XP or is it
downloaded without me knowing by the company?

Does anyone else have it on their computer?
I happened to notice it when checking Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Thanks !

Michael,
No sign of it in addremove or in a search of all my HD's. Must have come in on some other app that you ran.
I would rename the file/folder and see what if anything is affected. If no apparent affect, delete it.

Have a look at AnswersThatWork and scroll down until you find

T g c m d

in the left column. This may shed some light on SupportSoft.

A short extract:

This is the sort of software we classify as spyware. It is part of Tioga Software

Thank you Leif !

Ya know, I was cruising around the folders and found a Support.com folder with a Comcast file in it.
So the ###### give you the "It's for tech support" BS and swerve ya with the spyware crap.

Thanks so much for the article. I will un-install Support.com when I get home.

Do these "Spyware" programs work? I think it's time for me to download one. (Spybot?)
Any recommendations? The only hesitation I have, is that I believe when these programs
go to work, they list all the junk on your computer. How do I sort what to get rid of and what to keep? Is there a
standard list out there somewhere?

Thank you very much !

Michael,
Spybot is one of the GOOD ones. In addition, if you want to add a group of known spy/sleaze sites (1500) to Spybot, you can go to this site and download spysts10.exe which will add them to the lists in spybot. It's a good start, then you can add to or delete them as you wish.
http://Camtech2000.net The site also has other interesting items on it that pertain to this subject.

Hi, Michael ~

Make no hesitation about it. If you use the 'Search' feature at the top of this page for the 'Software Finds and Wants' forum, you will find plenty of recommendations and support for SpyBot and AdAware, both of which will make your computing life easier and more enjoyable.

Re: What is this program?

The only thing I found with Spybot that I didn't think necessary is that it points out a big list of MRUs that I don't care to worry about. But it is pretty clear when you run it, what stuff NEEDS to be eliminated, at least I think so.

Re: What is this program?

bigaldoc,

The MRU's are simply usage tracks which you can easily disable and they won't be included in the scan. In fact, Spybot is incredibly flexible and configurable in regard to what you want it to search for and destroy. If all a person wants is to have Spybot scan for spyware, malware, key loggers, and all those types of nasties, you can configure it to do that too. I've included a screenshot where you can enable/disable what gets scanned; Settings/File Sets section. BTW, their support board is great too for technical assistance.

In addition to these, I've also had pretty good success with "Trojan Remover." Found this one in a ZDNet software Library - the program runs manually and finds a bunch of stuff, lets you decide to keep/remove, and then goes on from there.
