sort, >3 criteria? (97, 2000)

I have a big list which I need (well, want!) to sort by 4 criteria. We'll call them date, credit slip, member number, type (the last one in descending order.)
The 'sort' tool in the Data menu only invites up to three criteria.
Any way of doing what I want in one trip?
The supplementary - any way of storing a 'sort' specification for future use?
Have searched this forum but not found anything.

1. You can't sort on 4 columns in one go, it takes two trips to Data/Sort. First, sort on the three least important columns, in this case (I suppose) Credit Slip, Member Number and Type (descending). Then, sort on the more important column(s), in this case only one: Date. This will leave the sort order withing one date unchanged.

2. You can record a macro of the actions you perform to sort the list. When you run the macro later on, the actions will be replayed.

Didn't figure the 2nd trip would leave the results of the first one still in place.

Another way is to make "intermdiate columns" which COMBINE other columns.
1)Date
2)Credit slip & Member number
3) type

With several columns of NUMBERS you can add them with multiplying factors:
For example if you have a list of numbers
A)date
B 10-50
C) 1-8
D)100-700
E) text
You can make a column F = a*10 + B +c/1000
Then sort on
Col a) col F, Col E to sort on ALL 5 columns
