Another clipboard extender

I have been using Clipmate for years now, available from http://www.thornsoft.com, and I wouldn't be without it. It also has the clean-up text feature, you can remove all those >>>'s from messages, extraneous hard returns, etc. I use it to store boilerplate text and/or graphics in collections to use over and over, it's very useful in the office and at home. I have no financial interest in the company, I am just a devoted user.

Hi Balby:

I've been using Smartboard 2000 for years. Do you know how it compares to Clipmate? It's biggest problem (Smartboard) is that it sometimes crashes Word if you use "Cut"; it has no problem with "copy".

I really don't know anything about Smartboard at all; I've been using Clipmate since 1995, and have never had it crash any programs at all, and I've used it extensively with Word, first with Word 6 and now with Word 97. The only problem I have ever had with it is it comes 'disconnected' from the clipboard occasionally, but there's a menu selection that reestablishes the connection. If you go to their website (mentioned above, but here it is again just so I can use the fancy tag panel http://www.thornsoft.com ) they have these neat tutorials called Viewlets that explain all the common features of the program.

Hi Balby:

Looks pretty good. I looked at the Viewlets & learned some features that Smartboard has that I didn't know about . Sorry to be a pest, but I have just one more question. Are the hotkeys configurable? i.e. in Smartboard, there are hotkeys to bring up certain functions, but you can change the hotkeys (which sometimes conflict with hotkeys that Word uses).

Thanks again.

Yes, the hotkeys are configurable, but I don't know what hotkeys Smartboard has. Clipmate has four, listed below:

Show ClipMate Window Ctrl + Alt + C
Scroll to Next Item in Collection Ctrl + Alt + N
Scroll to Previous Item in Collection Ctrl + Alt + P
Activate QuickPaste Ctrl + Shift + Q

I usually use just the first, Show ClipMate Window, and then perform any operations I want right in the ClipMate window.
