Office install - user profiles (Any)

I'm posting this here for a friend, in the hope of gaining some expert insight:

"I installed Office, under the impression that it would set itself up
for all the users (ie: create the Start Menu items / Desktop items) for
every user. Alas, it only did so for the profile I was on when I installed
it. I'd expect that for random software, but didn't think Office would
    work that way.

In anycase, is there any specific way to install software, such that the
Start Menu shortcuts get added for every user? Or do you *have* to resort
to manually copying the 'system wide' shortcuts to each user profile?"

    thanks for any advice

    What OS are you using?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Sorry, it's a Win 98 O/S I believe.
No more information than that available I'm afraid.

Next time install Office through Control Panel | Add/remove Programs | Install button (Win98) or Add New Program (Win2000/XP).

Because you are talking about different user profiles, OS on that computer must be NT/2000/XP (Win 95/98 has no separate dekstop settings for different profiles). To copy shortcuts to all users, right-click Start button and from pop-up menu choose Explore or Explore All Users. Then copy (or move) shortcuts from <username>Start MenuPrograms folder to All UsersStart MenuPrograms folder.

Depending of the version of Office, you may be prompt to register Office files (ie update Registry settings) for every user profile on the first Office use.
    Good luck!
