    Use of Scanner (Excel 2000/2002)

We use a scangun similar to the one's in shops. We would like to scan stamps in. The stamps is in grids of 16 stamps per page.

Our problem is that when I scan the first stamp I must press enter. Are there a way of trapping the code submitted from the scanner in order for the system to know to go to the next line. The bar code is standard 8 digits.

    Thanks

    Hi Mario,

Your scanner's software may be able to be programmed to automatically enter the CR as part of its output. That may be easier than trying to get Excel to recognise when all of the data for a particular cell have been received.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply. What does the CR means? I'm trying to read the manual but I don't know what to look for(setting)

Since Macropod has probably gone to bed by now: CR is Carriage Return (ASCII character 13, hexadecimal 0E), the equivalent of the Enter key.

    Mario,

I have a Symbol LS1900 Series barcode scanner and my manual has barcodes you scan to program the scanner to place an "enter" after every number scanned. I have my to place a "tab" after every number scanned since I want my numbers to go across the spreadsheet instead of down the column. Check out your scanner manual. There should be a way to program it to do just about anything you want. I would not rely on Excel to do this for you.

    Thanks again
