GIF picture in word (word 2000)

I download GIF file format drawings from a web page that I insert into word documents. The problem is that it looks great on the screen, but fuzzy when printed. I tried converting to JPEG, BMP, and TIFF, but it didn't clear up the picture. Is there any way to clean up the picture?

    thanks Rick

GIFs are displaying on your screen at screen resolution (somewhere around 72-100 dpi) and are specially sized to save bandwidth by not containing additional pixels that would come in handy for printing. Printers need higher resolutions to make the image look sharp.

As a result, what you see is what you get - there is no simple way to make the print look sharp at that size.

EXCEPT - if you shrink the image in Word, the resolution will increase proportionally. Therefore you can make the GIF you pilfered off a Web Page look sharp by making it smaller on the page.

Does it print clearly when you print from a browser? If not, I think it's hopeless, but if it does, and you have it in Word at 100% by 100%, it's something of a mystery. If you right-click the image in the browser, copy and then paste into Paint and then select all and Paste into Word, you should get a native bitmap. (Actually, you get an embedded MSPaint field that you can Ctrl+Shift+F9 to convert into a picture.) Not sure if that's what you meant by trying to convert, but I'd try that as a workaround.
