    Statusbar Unstoppable (2002)

    Even with application.DisplayStatusBar = false

    a file save operation will flash the progress bar
    in the statusbar. Is there a way to prevent this
    filesave progress bar?

    Have you tried placing Application.Statusbar = "" in the Workbook.BeforSave bit ?

    Sammy, baby, that does not work.

    Practically insults my intelligence. But, after Chris' success with
    my post in the VIP forum, you probably thought this would be easy....

    I knew that you would whine <img src=/S/exclamation.gif border=0 alt=exclamation width=15 height=15>
    This works for Jambo and I. What are you not telling us?
    Note -- if this works, you need to expand it to check if SaveAsUI is true. --Sam

    Private Sub Workbook_BeforeSave(ByVal SaveAsUI As Boolean, Cancel As Boolean)

    Cancel = True

    Re: Statusbar Unstoppable (2002)

    From what I can tell, the problem does not exist in Excel and I assume Kevin is working with Word. Even with the status bar switched off, Word does switch it on to show the FileSave progress. Such behaviour does not seem to be replicated in Excel, at least not for me (XL2002).

    Re: Statusbar Unstoppable (2002)

    What, there are other applications besides Excel? It still works for me, no progress bar:
    <pre>Option Explicit

    Sub saveMe()
    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    ActiveDocument.Save
    End Sub</pre>

    We'll probably find out that Kevin is actually in PowerPoint 2003 using C#. <img src=/S/bash.gif border=0 alt=bash width=35 height=39>
    We need more info, Kevin!

    Actually, I'm in Office 2000. Does it work in 2002?

    Re: Statusbar Unstoppable (2002)

    Negative, Sir. If the document is dirty, the progress indicator message and bar
    appear for both doc.save and doc.SaveAs.

    Putting either or both of these does nothing to prevent:

    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    Application.DisplayStatusBar = False

    Furthermore, the file object was created with the visible property set to false.

    So much for background file manipulations...

    I wonder if the old technique oDoc = CreateObject(...) would do any better?

    Does this help at all?:

    Application.DisplayAlerts = wdAlertsNone
