    I didn't send these emails! (5.5)

Suddenly I have started receiving batches of emails with the subject "Delivery Notification: Delivery has failed" I sometimes get 5-6 at a time and for the past week have been receiving them daily in two of my six operating mailboxes. The text is always the same --something including "daemon" and stuff I don't know at all. They are always delivery refusals to people and addresses that I have never heard of and never sent anything to. Here is a typical message:

    Return-path: <dweins@comcast.net>
    Received: from tcp-daemon.mtaout08.icomcast.net by mtaout08.icomcast.net

Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it some kind of virus? I also got one (1) notification yesterday that I had send a Klemz-infected virus that had been screened by Norton and sent back. It was to an address I didn't know or send anything to. I have checked my computer and it does not have the Klemz virus. I send HUNDREDS of "clean" emails everyday. What in the world is going on here?

    Hi, Peter ~

When viruses propogate, they spoof addresses from someone's address book. In other words, someone got an e-mail with a virus, became infected, and the virus sent itself out and places addresses culled from the host computer into the 'from' area and your address was in someone's address book along the line somewhere. When they get bounced, that is why they are coming back to you.

The person whose address is in the Return-path, dweins@comcast.net, probably contracted a variant of the Klez virus. (I'm fairly certain, but it's been so long... it could be another one.)
