Keeping Track of Queries (Access 2000)

I need advise on the following. When setting up a sequence of Queries like:

Q1
Q1 Summary
Q2 Summary
Union Q1 & Q2
Q3 Rpt Specifications.

How do you keep track of which follows on which one?

I hope I am clear on this. Do I use numbers in the properties field?

You could use the Description field in the Properties of the query, e.g. for Q2: Totals query based on Q1. If you view the database window in Details view, the description is displayed, so you can see the descriptions for many queries at a glance.

It doesn't hurt to create and maintain some kind of documentation outside of the database too.

May I suggest that you NOT name a query something like "Union Q1 & Q2", even if Access lets you? One way to keep track of the sequence is to create a macro with a series of OpenQuery actions in it in the sequence you want to run the queries. That provides you with an easy way to see which one comes next. Just copy the name of the query from the Query Name field at the bottom of the macro design and paste it into the comment area next to the OpenQuery action for that query. Then you can easily open the macro and see the order in which the queries need to run.
