    file attributes

I upgraded w2000 to repair some files. After the upgrade about 10gb of files on a 14 gb disk were labelled "system files" or at least they appear green on the defragmenter analysis screen and they will not defragment. How can I get the file attributes to display correctly. I have reinstalled w2000 but got no change. Not being able to defrag most of the disk keeps performance at a low level.

You are probably going to need something like Diskeeper - the 'Lite' version of which I believe is packaged with W2K.
What format is your HD? NTFS? Diskeeper will allow you to set a boot-time defrag if necessary.

Or, this alternative: PerfectDisk "claims" to do stuff that the W2K or XP defraggers don't do. They have a PDF chart you can look at.

These 10 GB can be hidden files from some programs. Do you use Norton System Tools, Go Back or similar programs?
Also: do you reinstall Windows on top of existing installation or you reformated your hard drive and did "clean" install?
