    Making a task optional

    Folks,

How do I do the following: I want to mark some task as optional. Then, I want to see my project using two different "modes": with or without the optional tasks.

    Any suggestions ?

    Regards

Don't know if there's a "proper" way to do this but here's a thought. You could add a column to the Task sheet between the Information column and the Task Name column:
1 Right click the Task Name column heading
    2 Select Insert Column
    3 Select a field ...say Text1
4 Give it a heading of Optional

Now enter Yes or No in that column against every task.

To show only the tasks that are not optional, click the AutoFilter button on the Formatting toolbar. (It's the last button, looks like a funnel). Now click the arrow to the right of your Optional column and select No. All your Yes tasks will be filtered out.

    One addition to Suzanna's suggestion...

In her step 3, select Flag1 rather than Text1. Flag fields can only have the answers yes or no, so when you go to enter data in the field you are given a drop-down and must choose either Yes or No
