    Exchange 2000 Recipient Policy Problems

    Exchange 2000, SP2
I have a recipient policy set up as follows:

    (&(&(&(& (mailnickname=*) (| (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(msExch HomeServerName=/o=Exchange Organisation/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=EXCHANGE4)) )))(objectCategory=user)(displayName=mccallum, john)))

If I "Modify" the policy and run "Find Now", only this user is found. However, when I run the Mailbox Management Process on the server to report on aged mail for the user, the process reports back on 63 users. What am I doing wrong?

I have done some further reading on Recipeint Policies and Mailbox Management and it seems that I really should be able to filter the policy to only work against the user or users I select. Is this a known Microsoft bug?

I don't have the facilities to test, but if you change the display name do you also get 63 results returned? And are you saving the modification befoe executing the query?

You might also create an "identical" query and see if it runs properly. I've had oddball results in SQL with queries, in the older versions.

Changed the display name and still got 63 results returned, with the first one being the new display name.

Creating an identical query solves the problem until I expand the new query, e.g. displayname=*, and run again. Afterwards, when I again filter on (displayname=mccallum, john), new query returns 63 names as well.

<img src=/S/hmmn.gif border=0 alt=hmmn width=15 height=15> You got me on this one. It sounds like it's not parsing that label at all when you execute the query. The only thing I can suggest without access to try it myself is to reduce the query to a simpler form, and see what you get. Of course we all know that Microsoft doesn't write buggy software. <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

Re: Exchange 2000 Recipient Policy Problems

    Changed the query to:
    (& (objectClass=user)(displayName=mccallum, john))

    Still the same result!

If this is a bug, it menas that I cannot use recipient policies to apply a flexible mail deletion policy, e.g. to allow some users/departmetns to keep mail for longer than others before we delete it.. Is there any other way to do it?
