VB editor opens. Why? (W98/Outlook 2000)

When a colleague clicks on a hotlink to an internet address in an e-mail message the de###### window of the VB editor opens. When he closes the editor a warning message says 'debugging will stop'. If IE is open in the background the link opens. Our help desk hasn't come across this 'feature' before. Any ideas on how we can get it to stop?

Sounds like the user has some code running or triggered. Does this happen for all URLs the user clicks on? When the debug Window opens, which debug environment is it? (I'm wondering if there's some error triggered by the HTML code, which is out of my depth.) Does the VBE open to a line highlighted in yellow, and with an error message? Has the user set any non-standard settings in IE under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced? If the user isn't supposed to have any code, has this user obtained and run the most up-to date virus scan available?

Thanks John. Yes it happens for all URLs (or at least so far) I'm not a VB expert (yet!) but to me it looks like the VB editor window. (It looks identical to the environment that opens when you select Macros in Word) One of the windows indeed has a line (the only line shown) highlighted in yellow (He's away today with his PC so I can't tell you what error message is highlighted). The user is so unlikely to be trying his own code ... Our network does a virus scan on boot-up every morning.

Post the offending line, and any error message, when you can get it.
