Office Corruption Plague (2000 Pro)

I've recently lost 4 systems on my network to corruption in Office.

Symptoms are:
Loss of standard Icons for Office programs on Start Menu
Excel & Word - Click on a file shortcut and it "Cannot find the file or" some part of it. But once Program is open, clicking on a shortcut will open the file. File type associations and DDE options were checked and OK.
Can't Detect and Repair - Finds the MSI on the CD and reports Temp Folder is not accessible or disk is full. Security was good on the temp directories and had 20GB free on the drive.

The problems have occurred over a 2 week period. No virus warnings.

Sounds too familiar. Have you tried to run the 'Detect & Repair' command yet? You can find it under the 'Help' menu in any of the Office suite programs, or it can be accessed from the install disk. (I even think there is a command-line switch that can be used to run the utility. Unfortunately, I don't recall if this solution worked for me, or if I took the 'Uninstall & Reinstall' shortcut instead.

Detect & Repair and Uninstall & Re-Install have all got errors of their own that terminate any attempt.

Detect & Repair: "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."

Re-install from CD: "Internal error 2755: Please contact product support for assistance."

Re: Office Corruption Plague (2000 Pro)

There are several causes possible.

First, the problem with Windows Installer. Depending of OS on your machines, consider Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 or Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows 95, 98, and Me.

Second, there can be a problem with user permissions, as described in MSKB Article 217714. For workaround, see Internal Error 2755.1632: Please Contact Product Support for Assistance.

Also, some updates and patches can produce similar effect. Check event log for clues.
