    Print File Size... (XP SP2)

    Hi,

When I print over our LAN via a HP PrintServer box my PC becomes very slow.

The scrn. shot shows how I am printing just 1 page of a 3.2Mb Word Doc.
This page has a rendered JPEG from Visio.

but the size of 108Mb is bizzarre!!!

What can be going wrong? My PC goes crazy for the duration of the printing.

A 3Mb JPEG could easily turn into a 100Mb print spool file because the print spool file is an uncompressed raster image of the extremely compressed JPEG plus whatever else in on your page.

You can speed things up by downsampling the resolution of the image which is most likely excessively sized for a laser printer quality print.

Alternatively you set the printer to print at a lower resolution eg if the resolution was 600dpi and you print the page at 300 dpi then I would expect the spool file to be one quarter the size (~27Mb).
