Comments in Word 2003 (Beta-2 of Word 2003)

When using comments in Word 2003, I'm looking for a way to hide the highlighting of commented text and also the reference marks inside of the balloons. These are not present in Word 2002. I have tried deselecting ScreenTips (for the highlighting) and deselecting Hidden Text (for the reference marks) in Tools>Options>View, but this does not turn them off. Deselecting these worked in Word 97 and 2000, but then the comments were not balloons. I would also like to prevent the highlighting and the reference marks from printing.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Thanks.

In Word 2000 (I'm a slow adopter <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> ), you control the printing of comments from Tools > Options... > Print tab. If you turn off printing off comments, does it still print the highlight?

Regarding the screen display, can I assume you don't see this stuff in Print Layout view (or whatever it might now be called)? I wonder whether this is a new feature to help you spot metadata... I guess I'll have more insight into that in a couple years. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Re: Comments in Word 2003 (Beta-2 of Word 2003)

In Word 2003 there is nothing for Comments in Tools>Options>Print tab. Actually I want to print the comments; I just want them to appear exactly the way they do when you print comments from Word 2002, i. e., without highlighted text and without comment reference marks inside of the balloons. I can't believe this has been added to Word 2003.

The highlighting and comment reference marks appear in both Normal and Print Layout views. Balloons do not appear in Normal view so the comment reference marks look those in Word 97/2000, except there is no way to turn them off as in Word 97/2000. Same for highlighting; no way to turn it off. In Print Layout view, the comment reference marks are inside the balloons. When you print, it's all there.

If anyone has any ideas about this, please let me know.

    Thanks.
