    Computer Slow Down

Lately my computer has started to slow down to a crawl at apparently random times. On checking the running processes I've found my CPU to be utilized by Message Server (MSGSRV32.EXE), 10-15% and by Windows Explorer (EXPLORER.EXE), 75-80%.

My impatience doesn't allow me to wait it out more than 15-20 minutes, so I reboot and all is well...sometimes for 2 or 3 days until it happens again.

Any ideas as to what's going on would be appreciated.

    Have a Great day!!!
    Ken

    Re: Computer Slow Down

Can you give me a list of whats running at Startup? Perhaps a screenshot. Also you might consider deleting Temp files and doing a Defrag.

    Hi Cowboy

Here's the screenshot of what I currently have running from startup.
I'll also clean up my temp files and do a defrag.

    Thanks for your help.....

Go ahead and delete your last post[ Those are procceses that are running} and then go to Start, Run, Type MSCONFIG,Click OK. Go to the Startup Tab and give me a screenshot of what is starting up on Bootup. See example below.

OMG! you really do have plenty of things in your startup...do you really NEED all of those things?

Here is what is in my startup...all my CookieWall/NoAds I add AFTER I am on my desktop.

Ken Go to this page Here pull up that list on MSCONFIG and Minimize it and look up each one of those and uncheck the ones you don't need at startup. That doesn't mean you can't use them. That will help you a great deal.

    Re: Computer Slow Down

    Hi Cowboy and Lonnie

Nope, I don't need them running at startup....many I don't use at all during any given session....but they are handy to have immediately available when I want them.
I'm familiar with Pacs-Portal and refer to it periodically...have even suggested it in the lounge a couple of times I believe.

I have added nothing recently to my startup list...nothing that corresponds to the start of my problem...which hasn't repeated since my original post. I usually only manually open one or two programs at a time and close some if I want to use one requiring lots of system resources.
Seems to me I've heard something about a Fast Find Index, or some such helper application, that MS has provided us ME users with. Apparently WindowsME indexes files periodically so they can be found faster. I'm wondering if that might be what WE is up to.

If it happens again, I'll make note of what else is/has been running.

    Thanks for the suggestions!!

    Have a Great day!!!
