    Office 2000 Compatability (XP)

Will Office 2000 work with either Windows XP Home or Pro? I'm getting a new computer and would like to continue to use Office 2000 if possible.

Office 2000 should work fine on both Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home.

Two additional remarks: the user who installs Office 2000 must have Administrator rights, and the user who uses Office 2000 must have certain rights in the Windows Registry. And if is asks "Allow Allusers to use it" say YES. This will save you headaches if you have more than on account and/or add more accounts.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Office 2000 Compatability (XP)

I upgraded from WIN98 to WINXP Pro without doing a clean install. Office 2000 was amongst the softwares that carried through the upgrade. The only real problem I have is that my other user cannot access Office 2000. e.g. when she executes WORD 2000, this message shows "Office Applications must be installed to run. Run Setup from the location originally installed".

Office is installed and I use it OK in my account. During the upgrade I did not deny the other user access to any programs - she appears to be able to use every program (including Outlook Express) except Office 2000 programs.

I don't really understand the second sentence in the message. After pressing OK to the message I did supply my Office 2000 SR1 CD which it didn't like so then put in the Office 2000 disk which it rejected because it couldn't find an update package.

I'm sure there is some way I can turn it on for my second user before she beats the hell out of me. Can you help please?

Ken, I think you probably need to reinstall Office on top of itself. You went from a single user architecture to a multi-user platform - the differences under the hood are likely the source of your frustration. Reinstalling Office will initialize the appropriate settings in the Windows registry and should enable it for use by all users on the machine. Just pop in your Office CD and it should prompt you to reinstall, which shouldn't take much time to complete.
