Picture Defaults (Word 2002)

Woody's April 15 Office Watch contained an excellent routine for saving AutoShape defaults in the normal.dot.

I tried the same routine with a picture without success. I write manuals containing screen shots (.jpg format). I nearly always format the picture Wrapping Style to "Tight." How can I make "Tight" the default?

Thanks,
Craig.

I don't know whether you can change that default.

If you can't, or if you want to try another route, you could create a macro to insert the picture and set the formatting at the same time. You either would hook up with InsertPicture (if you want a dialog interface) or EditPaste/EditPasteSpecial, as the case may be. If that appeals to you, let us know.

I agree with Jefferson. While you can set a default for some of the properties of AutoShapes, the InsertPicture is a Word Command. You'd need to modify that command. I'm sure one of he VBA experts could help.

Thanks for the responses. I was afraid that changing this default would require code. I actually did try to record a macro, but the Wrapping Style options were grayed out during the recording session.

Thanks again.
Craig.

Re: Picture Defaults (Word 2002)

This seems to do the job, but I'm partial to inline graphics, so I don't know if it's doing what you want it to do:

Sub InsertPictureAsShapeAndWrapTight()
Dim shp As Shape
With Dialogs(wdDialogInsertPicture)
' Display the dialog, but don't carry out the action
If .Display = 0 Then 'user canceled, so get out now
Exit Sub
End If
' Insert the picture as a floating shape, anchored to
' the current selection
Set shp = ActiveDocument.Shapes.AddPicture( _
FileName:=.Name, _
LinkToFile:=False, _
Anchor:=Selection.Range)
' Change the wrapping to "Tight"
shp.WrapFormat.Type = wdWrapTight
' Destroy object variable
Set shp = Nothing
End With
End Sub

Does it help? If not, does it give you any ideas for how to get where you want to go?
