    Horizontal Scroll-NO

    Help!

Sometimes, and more than I'd like, I find that I have to horizontally scroll the daily email archive to read the width of the email. For example, this happened for the 2003-04-08 Excel archive. The 2003-04-09 Excel archive was fine. I hate horizontal scrolling. I checked my profile and didn't see anything obvious. Is there something to set so I NEVER have to horizontal scroll?

    TIA

    Fred

I don't get that digest... Possibly someone used <!t>[PRE]<!/t> tags and didn't heed the request/warning to truncate long lines, or inserted a huge graphic? If that is the case, I don't think you can control this through any settings on the Lounge, but maybe the problem can be addressed in the script that compiles the digest (potentially at the cost of not being able to read the too-wide post). As a workaround, you could try viewing the message in Word, which has a tendency to "discipline" the tables. Then again, with the amount of conversion overhead, that might not be good either...

If Jefferson's guess is correct, possibly <post#=242317>post 242317</post#>....

    Leif,

I'm not sure why you're pointing me to post 242317.

That is a post from Legare Coleman on the Excel Lounge. Turns out, even in a browser, Legare's response is too wide and requires horizontal scrolling. While that is also not desirable, I was referring to the daily digests.

From Jefferson's response, it seems there is no great answer. Going the Word route is not desirable. I'll try to take notice next time I run into this if there are graphics or long code lines. I didn't think the latter could get posted.

    This is definitely a problem.

    Thks.

I simply assumed that a post in the Excel forum would be included in the Excel digest, which is what you originally referred to. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

Do you still have the problem digest?
Do you get your digests in HTML or plain text?

    Re: Horizontal Scroll-NO

    Leif,

Duh. I didn't look at the date on Legare's post but did get the connection that it was for Excel. I should get 1/2 credit for that much.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep the digests. Now that I looked at the date on Legare's post, it's not possible to tell which digest it was in. Legare's email is dated 2003-04-08. So it may very well have been in the 2003-04-09 digest. That one was ok. It was the day before that caused the horizontal scrolling.

Right now I'm a little behind in my reading. But I just opened the digests for April 12-17 and NONE of them showed a horizontal scroll bar.

I get my digests in html format, FWIW.

The "Pre" in Pre Tags means "preserve the layout posted", and so force the Lounge to ignore it's own line-wrapping conventions (and may force a larger font than your Lounge skin default font), and so are likely to cause the problem. No way around it.

    Re: Horizontal Scroll-NO

Long code lines in PRE tags usually will be the only part of the message in Courier font. If you find them and you're using Outlook, you can choose Edit > Edit Message and break the lines yourself.

We ask people not to post long code lines, but some people might not notice and others are repeat offenders who apparently feel their time is more valuable than your ability to read the digest. We don't like those people, do we. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
