Exporting IE6 history folder (IE6 WinXP Pro)

Does anyone know if there is a way to export the history folder in Internet Explorer? I am setting up a new computer and want to take the history folder to the new computer. I have saved more than 6 months of history and find it most useful. I do not wish to copy the folder and possibly risk corruption of the new installation.
    Thanks,

I know of no mechanism to export the History. You can copy the History folder, but I would expect that NOT to work very well as the registry would not correctly identify the History sub-folders and index.dat files.

I believe you would likely be better served making "Favorites" of the sites in your History that you want to keep...

A while back I looked at the programming interface for the History folder, and it looked too messy for a quick project. Maybe you can "harvest" your history to a text file with one of those programs that people use to spy on their other family members? But that wouldn't be usable again on the new PC... unless you converted the text file to HTML and made it the world's longest collection of links.

The History is stored in a bunch of "index.dat" files in multiple sub-folders. You could likely copy all of that to the new machine, but then you would have to modify the registry to tell it where to find the specific sub-folders -- in order for it to work like the old computer. It might be possible, but quite challenging...

While you could harvest all the addresses from the index.dat files (they can be read by a text editor), it certainly would not work the way the specialized History folder does...

Yes, I guess the question is why the history is useful to apapkin.

I've used it to reconstruct a lost afternoon (lost surfing <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> ) in Windows Explorer, but the history pane in IE seems to clear so quickly, and the Window titles often are so useless, that I almost never go there for anything older than one or two days. The address line autocomplete is sometimes very helpful, but mostly irrelevant.

If one just wants the info without the IE integration, text or text-turned-to-links might do the trick. Otherwise, as you say, it could be tricky.

One question, for what and how do you want this history for?
The history it self, I have found NOT to be much use except to see where one has been. Some employers love to see this. The only thing that I use that is connected to the history is the drop down list in the Address tool bar, which gets cleared when the history is removed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I have used the history many times. Mostly to revisit sites that I forgot to bookmark but usualy remember aprox. when I went there. This is not something I can't live without just would like. Appreciate any more thoughts though.

    Thanks,
